The attention of the board and management of the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (EKIRS) has been drawn to a viral video of Adonai International School Ado Ekiti. It was alleged in the video that the enforcement team of the EKIRS sealed-off and locked the premises of the school with children trapped inside.
EKIRS would like to state categorically that the insinuations in the viral video are untrue and not consistent with facts about the matter. On Wednesday, February 17, 2021, in accordance with the law and due process, our enforcement officers sealed off and locked the main gate of the premises of the school, due to non-compliance of the school authorities with their tax obligations. The pedestrian gate of the school was however left open for free flow of human traffic, while vehicular traffic was cut-off. The referenced video surreptitiously avoided showing the open pedestrian gate of the school – a fact that has been corroborated by many parents and staff of the school.
It is important to note that the enforcement exercise was carried out after numerous demand notices and reminders had been served on the school authorities, without a response. Despite this, it has been affirmed that our officers acted in line with extant provisions of the law, and genuine concern for the safety and security of staff and students at the school. We reiterate on good authority that there was never anytime any student was held, but rather in a gesture of magnanimity, we sealed-off vehicular traffic to the school, and left the pedestrian access open, as well as allowing normal academic activities to go on, while giving the school authorities the opportunity to regularise their position with us.
On the other hand, the authorities of the school have acted in very bad faith. First, by resisting the enforcement exercise and physically assaulting our staff, and second, proceeding to break the lock on the sealed main gate after the enforcement had been carried out. An act that is punishable under the law. Third, they have manufactured this video to misrepresent the facts.
We view this concocted video as a clear attempt to blackmail the EKIRS, and ultimately to evade the payment of taxes. It is sad to note that an educational institution with the burden of instilling values and civic responsibility into the younger generation, would not only fail to perform their civic obligations, but also dishonestly misrepresent facts to cause public disaffection against a government entity carrying out its legitimate duties.
EKIRS would like to reiterate our commitment to the enforcement of our zero-tolerance policy for tax evasion. We are however humane members of the society and would always prioritise the protection of children and other vulnerable people in the course of our work.

2023: Impeaching Deputy Speaker, Kadiri Will Limit APC Chances In Ogun East
Ogun East Youths for Good Governance have decried the arrest and detention of the Deputy Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Oludare Kadiri, by the Police, describing it as a desperate attempt to malign the person of the popular politician and lawmaker in Ijebu North.
The group in a statement made available to newsmen, also dismissed Kadiri’s arrest and detention at the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, as “undue and unwarranted political victimization” from deperate quarters which will limit chances of All Progressive Congress in the forthcoming elections.
The statement jointly signed by the group’s President and Secretary, Samuel Adekoya and Adetola Sopeju, respectively, stated that the Deputy Speaker, noted that Hon.Oludare Kadiri has adequately represent his constituents since his election in 2015.
The group further described him as a committed, dedicated, dynamic, focused and purpose-driven lawmaker.
“He has defended the interests of youths, women and the generality of his people and never wavered in positively projecting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) within and beyond his constituency.”
“We are, however, surprised that a distinguished party man who has risked everything to help bring the current administration on board is now subjected to ridicule and opprobrium”, the group said.
They also noted that the “explanation” by the state police command through its Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, amounts to “reinforcing falsehood” against Kadiri.
According to them, “a viral video of the incident which is making the rounds has cleared the air and shown that Hon. Oludare Kadiri only came for peaceful intervention.
“He never assaulted anyone. If the viral video is critically assessed, one will discover that Hon. Oludare Kadiri came to the scene after Hon. Yinusa had been beaten by some members of the community.
“One will realise that the video was shot at the behest of the Deputy Speaker. He only instructed one of the boys around to take pictures and record the scene for proof, and not what detractors mischievously changed it to that Maba sent thugs to beat up Hon. Yinusa.
“From our independent findings, some aggrieved members of the community had beaten Hon. Yinusa before Maba came into the scene. How can people now shamelessly turn the table against a lawmaker who had been supporting and defending his constituents?
“We want to appeal to well-meaning members of the public to discountenance the spurious claims that the Deputy Speaker was arrested and detained for assault. His ordeal was clearly orchestrated and designed by internal forces bent on tarnishing his image.
“We reject the despicable and ignoble attempts to drag the name of Hon. Oludare Kadiri in the mud.
“The Deputy Speaker needs to be encouraged and supported for his yeoman’s job in bringing more dividends of democracy to the downtrodden and generality of his constituents.
“Silencing and intimidating him would do no good at this point in time.”

LAWMA hits the ground running with the Lagos Recycle Initiative
With the launch and implementation of the Lagos Recycle Initiative, aimed at stemming the tide of plastic pollution in the state, Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has deployed the PAKAM app for seamless coordination of the recycling program.
Tackling the menace of plastic pollution, which had over the years posed serious dangers to residents and the environment, is one of the key visions of the present LAWMA administration, led by Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni. This necessitated the introduction of the Lagos Recycle Initiative.
According to the Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, “Recycling is key in the Authority’s drive to make Lagos cleaner and livable, stressing that moving plastic materials from the Lagos waste stream would reduce the volume of waste that eventually gets to dumpsites”.
Odumboni said the Lagos Recycle initiative would deploy an attractive reward system, to encourage waste segregation and timely pick-up of recyclables across the state, emphasizing that residents would be rewarded for gathering their plastic items and handing them over to LAWMA accredited recyclers.
He said the Authority had already established accredited centers across the state for the collection and collation of recyclable materials, which includes PET, pure water sachets, cans, bottles, etc, adding that residents and other stakeholders can simply bring in these recyclables to the centers and be rewarded.
As at the time of filing this report, the following were the categories and weight of recyclables collated over the weekend, across the Authority’s recycling centers:
The LAWMA boss commended all stakeholders, especially Wecyclers and Recycle Points, for keying into the Lagos Recycle Initiative, which apart from making the environment cleaner and safer for living, would provide jobs for the teeming youth population in the state.
