For any meaningful development to happen in any society, adequate attention must be paid to the environment, which no doubt provides the enablement for critical human activities to thrive.
Such environment must not only be visibly clean, it must equally attract the right business opportunities, for economic blueprint to create employment opportunities for the teeming population.
This perhaps was what Mr. Governor envisioned when, on assumption of office on May 29, 2019, he introduced a six pillar programme known as “THEMES” agenda, the second of which is Health and Environment as a major drive of his administration.
Governor Sanwo-Olu has no doubt demonstrated the capacity to improve the waste management system, through the introduction of many laudable initiatives to reinvent the environmental architecture of the state.
One of such strategic initiative is the provision of over 7000 branded uniforms for about 417 PSP operators in the state.
Mr. Governor has not only walked his talk, he has shown a genuine commitment to the wellbeing of the good people of Lagos State and he has once again, blazed the trail of governance by any standard.
The Managing Director, Lagos Waste Management Authority, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, expressed his appreciation and gratitude to Mr. Governor for this laudable gesture and all the assistance he has been giving to the Authority in the past years.
He appreciated the support given to the PSPs by the Governor, in the rebranding of the face of waste management in the state, saying that, “the PSPs are core to our operational services and that over the years, they have been the face of LAWMA in every street, nooks and crannies of Lagos State”.
The MD also appreciated Access Bank Plc for their support in the branding of those uniforms.
The president of the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAMN), the umbrella body of PSP operators, Mr. David Oriyom, in his reaction, appreciated Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for the gift of uniforms to the association through LAWMA, for the purpose of improving the operational efficiency of their members in waste management in the state.
With this branding initiative, residents will begin to see all the PSP operators and operatives wear a unique and professional uniforms in the course of their duties.
Each of the operatives have their trucks branded and will be manned by operators wearing branded uniforms unique to their respective organisations.
The MD appealed to all residents to continue to patronise their assigned PSP operators, pay their waste bills timely, ensure that they containerize their wastes by owning a bin, shun all forms of indiscriminate and illegal dumping of refuse in unauthorized places.
The new branding arrangement will commence on 1st March,2021 throughout the state.
In the same vein, our sweepers will also start wearing branded uniforms with the names of the CEO companies boldly emblazoned on them.
LAWMA is committed to providing a sustainably clean environment suitable for all.
